Martín García is the Artistic and Music Director at the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay and the Music Director at the National Ballet Company of Uruguay. Since 2010, he has conducted nearly 200 performances of the National Symphony Orchestra, participating in the unprecedented success that the National Ballet Company has enjoyed since the arrival of Master Julio Bocca.
A pianist and violinist since childhood, García has trained under Conductor Federico García Vigil at Universidad de la República (Montevideo, Uruguay), studied with Professor Russell Guyver at the University of Northern Colorado (Greely, Colorado, USA) and with Conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti at Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy).
García has collaborated with Uruguayan professional orchestras for more than two decades. In Argentina, he has been the guest conductor of the symphonic orchestras of Santa Fe, Rosario, Neuquén and Mendoza, as well as of the Cordoba Symphonic Band. He has also directed the symphonies of Porto Alegre and São Paulo in Brazil, the Kharkov Philharmonic in Ukraine, the Sofia Festival Orchestra and the Bulgaria Classic Orchestra.
He received the Second Prize in the Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition. In addition, García was the winner of the Morosoli Award in 2010 and he was recognized for his commitment to culture and the arts in 2014 in Uruguay.
Currently, he is professor of orchestral direction at the University School of Music in Montevideo, Uruguay. He was born in 1976 in Montevideo.
